While Jackson Hole is known for its epic ski terrain and high-end resorts, there are many other ways to explore and enjoy the snow when visiting. But for those who want a break from the slopes or don’t ski, there are plenty more winter activities in Jackson Hole that aren’t skiing. From sledding to sleigh rides, discover our favorite winter activities that you should add to your Jackson Hole travel itinerary.
Take a sleigh ride
Wrap yourself in a warm blanket, be whisked away to pristine landscapes, and experience the beauty of Jackson Hole valley as you glide through a winter wonderland led by a team of horses on your very own sleigh ride. Led by knowledgeable locals, you’ll not only enjoy the beautiful scenery but learn a little bit about the landscape and wildlife that make up the area.
While the National Elk Refuge is the most popular place for a sleigh ride in Jackson Hole, there are several other area ranches and adventure companies that offer rides with dinner and hot cocoa.
Snowshoeing
Hit the trails by snowshoeing your way through a winter wonderland. Snowshoeing is a great way to slow down and explore the mountains despite the ample snowfall that makes its way to Jackson Hole every year. The Teton Park Road, inside the Grand Teton National Park, is a great place to start and is open in the winter to cross-country skiers and snowshoers.
Fat biking
Hit the trails this winter with fat biking. Explore Jackson Hole and the surrounding areas on two wheels and see a whole new side of what makes this part of the state so special. There are many places to choose from including the Teton Pass trail network and the Wilson Centennial Trail.
For fat biking, you want to look for well-groomed trails, especially if you are a beginner. A lot of the popular singletrack biking trails in the summer are converted to multi-use groomed trails in the winter, perfect for fat biking. Plus, some of the ski resorts feature fat biking trails that are well-groomed and maintained.
Sledding and tubing
Downhill skiing isn’t the only way to get down a mountain. Some of the most popular winter activities in Jackson Hole are sledding and tubing. Book your reservation at King Tubes at Snow King Resort.
