While during the day Jackson Hole shines bright with its beautiful scenery, at night it puts on a different show where the stars really shine. Over the past few years, stargazing has become a popular activity in areas where there is little to no light pollution, such as the Jackson Valley in Wyoming. Because most of the valley is federally owned, there isn’t much development, thus fewer lights, and more chances to see the stars. From on-your-own adventures to guided tours, discover where to go stargazing in Jackson Hole.

Grand Teton National Park

Really anywhere in Grand Teton National Park is great for stargazing. With no light pollution for miles and a vast scenic landscape, the park is one of the best places to see the stars and Milky Way. In August, visitors can view the Perseid meteor shower, a favorite astrological event in the summer.

One of the most popular spots inside the park to photograph the night sky is at the iconic Moulton Barn on Mormon Row. During the summer months, photographers grasp at the chance to capture the Milky Way that seemingly rises from behind the barn, making for one spectacular photo.

If you are willing to venture out on your own for a night out of the town, you really can’t go wrong with anywhere inside Grand Teton National Park. But if you’re not, then there are several options in town for a guided tour to see the stars.

Wyoming Stargazing

The offices for Wyoming Stargazing, a non-profit planetary, and observatory, are located in Jackson. They offer a free public stargazing event every CLEAR Thursday evening at the Stilson Parking lot in town. Their astronomy educators will use one of their large aperture telescopes to show you planets, stars, galaxies, and more! The event starts roughly one hour after sunset when temperatures are above zero degrees.

They also offer private and group stargazing tours that take you through the valley for some of the best stargazing in Jackson Hole. If you would like to learn how to photograph the night sky, they also offer a private tour with a professional nature photographer to show you how to capture the Milky Way and the galaxy of stars above.

Teton Skies

Teton Skies is another company that offers private stargazing tours. Sign up for their Grand Teton Experience where they will take care of you from beginning to end. Enjoy a private pick-up from your hotel to a special location in Grand Teton National Park where you will enjoy a nearly unlimited view of the night sky. Use their state-of-the-art telescopes and let their expert astronomers guide you on a trip to the stars. Plus, you get to enjoy refreshments, including wine, cheese, charcuterie, and desserts.
