Often ranked as having some of the best expert ski terrains in the country, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is also home to beginner and intermediate runs. Whether you’ve never skied before or are new to Jackson Hole’s terrain, read below for a beginner’s guide to skiing in Jackson Hole.

When is the ski season in Jackson Hole?

Ski season in Jackson Hole typically begins mid to late-November and runs through early April, or longer depending on snow levels.

Where to find the best beginner terrain

There are three main resorts in Jackson Hole, the Grand Targhee Resort, Snow King Mountain, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Each offer a variety of beginner terrain to help get you started.

Grand Targhee Resort

Just over the Teton Pass from Jackson Hole is the Grand Targhee Resort. The Grand Targhee Resort is one of the best places to get started skiing in Jackson Hole. Head up the Shoshone lift, where every run is an easy/beginner run. Enjoy wide, well-groomed terrain without expert black-diamond skiers blasting down the mountain alongside you.

Snow King Mountain

Snow King Mountain also offers plenty of beginner terrain along with fewer crowds and a convenient location to downtown Jackson Hole. If you’re putting on ski boots for the first time, Snow King Mountain offers two-hour lessons at the Magic Carpet lifts.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers some beginner runs via the Teewinot and Eagle’s Rest lifts, plus the Sweetwater gondola mid-station. There are only beginner runs available from these lifts, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally getting on a black diamond run.

Both Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort provide lift tickets that are only valid for beginner terrain.

What are lift ticket prices?

Lift ticket prices vary by resort. See below the breakdown:

  • Jackson Hole Mountain Resort – lift ticket prices begin at $93 a day at the beginning of the season and go up to $159 a day later in the season. Half-day discounted tickets are available. Advanced ticket purchase is required.
  • Grand Targhee Resort – lift ticket prices start at $103 a day and discounted rates for half-days are offered. Kids ski free.
  • Snow King Mountain – A full-day lift ticket price starts at $59, with half-day options, and a night skiing option for $30. Kids 5 and under ski free. The Magic Carpet lift is $15.

Where do I get my gear?
