Summer has finally arrived and it’s just the time when Jackson Hole comes alive with a variety of activities and adventures to enjoy with warmer days and cool nights. Plus, with both national parks open at full capacity, there’s much to explore. Discover America’s beautiful outdoor playground with these things to do this summer in Jackson Hole.
Visit the national parks
Nearby Grand Tetons National Park and Yellowstone National Park make for a great day trip when visiting Jackson Hole. Only about 20 minutes from the Huff House Inn, Grand Teton National Park is an easy day trip! A few highlights to see are Jenny Lake, Jackson Lake Lodge, and Colter Bay Village. And while Yellowstone National Park is a bit further from town, roughly an hour and a half, the park can still be visited in a day. Visitors will enjoy dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, hot springs, and gushing geysers the park is known for.
Wildlife viewing
One of the many things that keep Jackson Hole WILD is its abundance of wildlife. From the frequent bison appearances to soaring bald eagles, there is plenty to see. But knowing what to look for and where to go is key to wildlife viewing in Jackson Hole.
Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park is by far one of the most popular spots for wildlife viewing. A few other places to include are Antelope Flats Road and Moose-Wilson Road. Visit both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks for chances to see herds of Bison.
Paddleboarding
Cool off this summer and enjoy an epic adventure with paddleboarding on a smooth alpine lake or challenge yourself with rapids on the flowing river. Whether you are paddleboarding in one of the national parks or near the town of Jackson Hole, there is always stunning scenery to be enjoyed from almost any vantage point. Some of the best places to hit the water are String Lake, Jenny Lake, and Jackson Lake inside Grand Tetons National Park, plus Snake River that winds its way through the valley.
Biking
Hit the trails or the road with a bike ride through Jackson Hole and beyond. Biking is one of the best ways to enjoy summer’s beauty and the warm weather outdoors. Ride 67 miles of pathways with plenty of route options for the leisurely and experienced pedal pushers. Popular bike routes include Jackson Hole to Moose, the Moose to Wilson pathway, and for a challenge, head up Old Pass Road to the top of Teton Pass.
There are several in-town paved pathways as well, with most of them found in the southwest corner of town, including Cache Creek, which is a popular route amongst hikers, bikers, and runners.
Fishing
Gather the entire family for a day of fun with fishing in Jackson’s beautiful rivers. For a moment of solitude or the perfect family outing, fishing the Snake River and the area national parks offer some of the best places to fish in Jackson Hole. And of course, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks offer excellent fishing opportunities as well.
