There is no denying that Wyoming and the Jackson Hole valley offer some of the best fall scenery in the world. Complete with the snow-capped peaks of the Teton Mountain Range and mountain slopes dotted with coloring aspens, here are our tips on where to see fall colors near Jackson Hole.

When is the best time to see fall colors near Jackson Hole?

Catching the fall colors at their peak is all dependent upon the weather. But generally speaking, the best time to visit is early to mid-October. And if you are lucky, you’ll catch the clash of the seasons, when the first dusting of snow nestles atop the golden aspen leaves.

Oxbow Bend

Visit Grand Teton National Park to see the fall colors at Oxbow Bend. As one of the most scenic vistas in the entire Teton Range, visitors will enjoy the snow-capped peaks of Mount Moran with colored aspens reflecting off the winding Snake River. Arrive early enough to capture the best light across Mt. Moran and glass-like waters for a truly tranquil moment.

Snake River

Most anywhere along the Snake River provides a chance to see fall colors near Jackson Hole. Take a gentle stroll along the banks of the river via the two entrances near the Wilson Bridge. Or float down the Snake River and enjoy the fall colors right from the water.

Perfect for the family, be sure to spend some time at Rendezvous Park. The 40-acre park offers a natural playground, ponds, meadows, and plenty of fall colors.

Scenic drive along Fall Creek Road

Spend the day out and about by taking a scenic drive along Fall Creek Road. Heading into the heart of the Teton Mountain Range, Fall Creek Road delivers A+ views with jagged mountain peaks, yellowing aspens, and frequent wildlife. The 18-mile route begins as a paved road for the first 12 miles and finishes off with a dirt road the last six miles, but suitable for any vehicle. Linking the town of Wilson to the Snake River Canyon, road-trippers will discover mountain biking, camping, hiking, fishing, and of course, colorful fall foliage.

Scenic drive over Togwotee Pass

Named as one of Wyoming’s best scenic byways, the drive over Togwotee Pass is one of our favorite places to see fall colors near Jackson Hole. As the summit for the Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway, Togwotee Pass offers unparalleled high-country mountain views of the Grand Tetons, vistas of the Breccia Cliffs, and dominating views of the castle-like Pinnacle Buttes. From Jackson Hole, take Highway 26/89/189, heading towards Dubois.
