Jackson Hole is a premier destination for outdoor recreation, scenic landscapes, skiing, dining, shopping, and wildlife. With so much to see and do, we’ve paired down a list of our must-dos when visiting. Create your perfect vacation with our Jackson Hole bucket list.
Visit Jackson Hole Town Square

The Jackson Hole Town Square rests at the heart of town and is anchored by elk antler archways at each corner. The park provides a grassy center with trees and benches. From here, visitors can explore Jackson Hole’s exceptional collection of shops, restaurants, art galleries, and museums. The town square is particularly lovely during the holidays when the decorative elk antlers that mark the entrance are decorated with thousands of holiday lights.
Visit Jenny Lake at Grand Teton National Park
While a visit to Grand Teton National Park should be a part of any Jackson Hole bucket list, Jenny Lake is a great place to start when exploring the park. As one of the more popular areas of the park, Jenny Lake offers a wide variety of activities such as boating, hiking, and camping.
A unique way to explore Jenny Lake is aboard the Jenny Lake Shuttle, a boat that acts as part scenic-tour and part water-taxi. The water taxi takes visitors from the south end of the lake to the Cascade Canyon Trailhead. It’s a great way to navigate the area and take in the sites and sounds around you.
Visit Mormon Row

Uncover Jackson Hole’s historic past with a visit to the Mormon Row Historic District. Along this historic site, you will encounter the popular John Moulton Barn. This highly-photographed structure is a must-see during your visit to Jackson Hole. Mormon Row is located inside Grand Teton National Park off the Antelope Flats Rd.
Yellowstone National Park
While we’re on the subject of National Parks near Jackson Hole, our list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Yellowstone National Park. If you’ve made it this far to Jackson Hole, then a day trip to Yellowstone is a must. Located two and a half hours from town, Yellowstone makes a great day trip to see dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, hot springs, gushing geysers the park is known for.
Wildlife viewing at the National Elk Refuge

Jackson Hole claims itself as “the last of the old west,” and there are many ways to experience this, one of which is viewing the local wildlife. Known for its roaming bison, elk herds, and other wildlife, Jackson Hole is a great place to see what keeps the town “wild.” One of the best ways to see the local fauna is a visit to the National Elk Refuge. The refuge provides sanctuary for one of the largest elk herds in the world. Plus, visitors will also have the chance to see bison, bald eagles, wolves, and bighorn sheep.
Hit the slopes
If you plan to visit during the winter and spring months, be sure to plan a day or two at one of Jackson Hole’s mountain resorts. Epic powder and scenic landscapes make Jackson Hole one of the best places in the country for skiers. Jackson Hole is home to the Grand Targhee Resort, Snow King Mountain Resort, and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Each offers its own unique features and a variety of runs for all skill levels.
